The Definition and Establishment of the Authority

An independent public authority with a legal personality, as well as financial and administrative independence that has organisational ties to his Highness the King. It is in charge of carrying out and managing operations, maintenance, and development at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. This contributes in providing the best care possible to worshippers, visitors, and to the guests of Ar-Rahman. This is based on; the decision to change numbered (61), dated 21/01/1445 AH.

Main Objective

To enhance the level of services provided at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, which enables visitors to perform their religious duties and acts of worship with ease, comfort, serenity, and tranquillity.

The Chairman of the board of directors

 The Board of Directors of  the General Authority for the Care & Management
of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosques is chaired by His Excellency Dr. Tawfiq ibn Fawzan al-Rabi‘ah a distinguished leader with extensive administrative experience, reflecting the leadership’s commitment to appointing qualified individuals to ensure the Authority’s objectives are met.

Organisational Arrangements of the Authorit:​​​​​​​

  • Preparing all services within the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque for visitors.
  • Supervising all matters related to the  Noble Ka’bah, including the production, maintenance, and preservation of its cover.
  • Managing the endowments and donations of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, as entrusted to the Authority, without infringing upon the jurisdiction of the General Authority for Endowments and Donations or the conditions set by the donors.
  • Supervising all operations, maintenance, and development activities related to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
  • Overseeing all translation activities connected to the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, in coordination with relevant entities.
  • Supervising the affairs of the Mushafs within the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
  • Contributing in organising entry and exit procedures for the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. In addition, regulating the presence of licensed guides from the Presidency of Religious Affairs within the Grand Mosque.
  • Likewise, implementing necessary preventive measures in coordination with relevant entities.
